Search volume or domain rankings: which SEO check comes first?

Guides

Choose a keyword demand check when you have a list of terms, or a domain ranking report when you want to understand existing visibility. Keep demand, rankings and sales separate.

Before buying SEO data, write the decision you need to make. Are you choosing a topic for a new page, or deciding which existing page deserves attention? Those questions need different starting points. An agent can collect more data without getting closer to the decision if its first request answers the wrong question.

For a shortlist of terms, start with Keyword Demand. CONNSKILL accepts your chosen keywords through POST /v1/keyword-metrics. The response can include search volume, CPC, advertising competition and available monthly history. Google Ads competition describes competition for paid ads; it is not a score for how difficult organic rankings will be. Missing data should remain missing in your report.

For an existing website, start with Domain Rankings and POST /v1/ranked-keywords. Its input is a target domain, with a chosen market and language. It helps identify observed keywords, positions and ranking URLs. The underlying DataForSEO Labs data is updated periodically, so receiving the API response now does not mean every position was measured now. A missing keyword in the returned set does not prove the domain never ranks for it.

For example, a business considering a new service page can begin with a small list of terms customers might use. Compare relevance and demand, then inspect the current results for the strongest candidate. If the business already has that page, a domain report may first reveal which query and URL to inspect. This is a suggested workflow, not a claim that a particular page will gain rankings.

Keep the target market consistent when connecting reports, and record when each result was obtained. Preserve any source update time supplied with the result. Search volume estimates market demand; a ranking observation describes visibility. Neither proves visits to your website, qualified enquiries or purchases. Use your own analytics and order records for those later steps.

Give your agent a bounded brief: choose the appropriate first check, state its inputs, inspect the current service status and payment quote, then ask for approval before buying. Request a short conclusion that names the evidence, its limits and one next action. The product links below provide the corresponding service inputs and examples.
